Art Show Prep

On September 30, TVC Youth will open our very first art show. The show will also be our first fundraiser to benefit the children of Northern Uganda. Last Sunday we started to prepare the pieces for the show.

We watched a few video clips from Invisible Children to remind us what the children in Northern Uganda have had to face in daily life. We prayed for the many things these children need and we made paintings of our prayers. To inspire our creations, Whitney Carlson taught us about African and Ugandan art. We are very excited about what will happen as we prepare for the opening.

Check out these photos Cara took:

First we made sketches of our art piece.

When the sketches were finished, we picked up our canvas and paint choices.

Somewhat Consecutive Blog #6 – Fear Factor

I forgot to post a blog yesterday. However, our good friend Mackenzie posted one. I hope that makes up for my missing it.

Anyway…

I think it is a requirement for youth groups to play gross-out games. We rarely participate in these kinds of activities. So, when we get the chance, why not do it? A couple of weeks ago at TVC Youth Bible Study, we played a rendition of the mother of all gross out games: Fear Factor. A few students volunteered to participate by being blindfolded and eating some items that may be a bit scary to eat without blindfolds: cold canned spaghetti, cottage cheese, and tuna. Of course we had fun suggesting it might be worms, old milk, and cat food. Not to worry, serious Bible study and a discussion on humility followed.

Check out these photos that David Hansen sent me:

Consecutive Blog #4 – Take me out…

Our annual event that happened without a hitch was the TVC Baseball Night. This is a church-wide event that many look forward to each year. Baseball fan or not, the Nashville Sounds games are loads of fun. Going together as a church family only makes it more fun.

Consecutive Blog #3 – Lord of the Sleep

I didn’t post a blog yesterday because it was Sunday. So, I am still on target.

Anyway…

Our annual camping trip took a detour this year. The group of girls who planned on going on the trip were not disappointed by the change of having a girls sleep-over. The night was filled with games and movies. The two aspects were combined with Lord of the Rings DVD Trivial Pursuit.

As you can see from the pictures that follow, our group has a number of hard-core LOTR fans.

The morning after the intense night of Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.

The healthy breakfast that followed.

Classic! I especially love the second picture where Whitney is "poking" my eye out. What a night!

Consecutive Blog #2 – Cook-Out

OK, I pulled off two days in a row.

It seems like only a couple of weeks ago that we had our spontaneous cook-out. Our old friends Chris and Tosha Barber welcomed all of us into their yard for an evening of hotdogs, marshmallows, croquet, mafia, as well as a few other games.

Check out the pics that documented the night:

Bella does not take this game lightly.

Evie has a few more years till she can join TVC Youth on a regular basis.
